ATSAMD21E16 from Microchip

2021-01-07

ATSAMD21E16 is a new microcontroller from Microchip, which combines power efficiency with high performance of ARM Cortex – M0+ core. MCU has been optimized for control applications i.e. Home automation, consumer electronics, measuring apparatus and industrial applications.

MCU characterizes by large amount of Flash memory (64KB) and SRAM(8KB), high operating frequency (up to 48MHz), ability to communicate via hardware UART / USART, SPI and I2C interfaces, and wide range of supply voltage (from 1.62V to 3.63V). This microcontroller is supported by Atmel Studio, Advanced Software Frameworks (ASF) from Microchip and the universal development kit STK600. ATSAMD21E16 is also supported by the MPLAB Harmony v3 software development platform, which greatly simplifies design and development and, what's more, reduces time to market.

ATSAMD21E16 supports the Functional Safety (FuSa) standard according to ISO 26262 (ASIL B), IEC 61508 (SIL 2) and IEC 60730 (Class B).

The Cortex-M0 + is based on the well-known and very successful Cortex-M0 design, keeping its full instruction set and compatibility while reducing power consumption and increasing performance. Advanced processor sleep modes (which allow all processor functions to remain active) and processor wake-up modes (based on predefined conditions, e.g. exceeding a set threshold) enable realization of very energy-efficient devices.

The new microcontroller from Microchip has a very rich and configurable peripheral section, which results in a high versatility of the design, it can be implemented in both simple and complex devices.

The new design now also features subsystems for operating touch, capacitive buttons, sliders and user interfaces controlled by the wheel.
