The device is a ready-made converter from USB to a 4-wire RS485 interface (it also works as RS422). Data transmission over the RS485 interface occurs in full-duplex mode (simultaneous sending and receiving of data is possible). From the computer's (USB) side, the device is recognized and handled as a typical serial port. The converter is built on the FT232RL controller from FTDI.
The included drivers (available for download from our website) allow you to write custom communication procedures in the same way as with devices transmitting data via the RS232 interface. Typical terminal programs, such as the HiperTerminal windowed program, can also be used for computer-side communication. More advanced programmers may opt for the D2XX drivers (USB Direct Drivers + DLL S/W Interface). A major advantage of the module is the ability to choose nearly any transmission speed, as long as it matches on both the sending and receiving sides.
Basic parameters:
- Data transmission speed up to 2.5Mb/s
