Detailed description

The DS3231SN is a highly accurate real-time clock with a built-in temperature-compensated crystal oscillator. It records seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, and years with leap year correction up to the year 2100. The time can be displayed in either 12-hour or 24-hour format with an AM/PM indicator when using the 12-hour format. Communication with external devices is via an I2C interface running at a clock speed of 400kHz. In case of a power failure, the system switches to battery power, ensuring continuous timekeeping. It features low power consumption, allowing the clock to operate uninterrupted for long periods on a single battery. The circuit also offers the following capabilities: setting two daily alarms, reading temperature, generating a square wave, and microprocessor reset.

Key Features:
- Output frequency: 32.768kHz;
- Clock accuracy:
±2ppm for 0÷40°C;
±3.5ppm for -40÷85°C;
- Temperature sensor accuracy: ±3°C;
- Current consumption for Vcc = 3.63V;
Active mode: 200µA;
Standby mode: 110µA;
- Supply voltage: 2.3÷5.5V;
- Operating temperature: -40÷85°C;
- Available in SOP16 package (0.3” wide).

Applications:
- Servers;
- Telematics;
- Electrical parameter meters;
- GPS systems.
