Detailed description

SN65HVD230D is an integrated CAN transceiver that is pin-compatible with the PCA82C250 from NXP. The SN65HVD230D provides an interface between the CAN controller and the physical CAN bus, complying with the ISO-11898 standard. It is powered by a 3.3V supply and has built-in protections against bus failure, thermal overload, and ESD protection of 16kV (HBM).

The SN65HVD230 can operate in three modes: very high speed (High Speed), slope control (Slope Control), and low power consumption (Low Current Standby). In High Speed mode, the transmitter operates at the maximum possible speed, in Slope-Control mode, the rise time of edges can be limited to reduce the receiver’s sensitivity to interfering pulses, and in Standby mode, the transmitter is turned off while the receiver remains active.

The CAN transceiver is connected to the physical bus medium via two lines: CAN High (CANH) and CAN Low (CANL). To protect against interference, differential voltage signals are used for data transmission.

Key Features:
- Complies with ISO-11898 physical layer requirements;
- High input impedance - up to 120 modules can operate on a single bus;
- Unpowered devices do not interfere with CAN network operation;
- Current consumption:
a) Active mode: 10mA,
b) Standby mode: 370µA,
- Wake-up time from Standby mode: 0.55µs;
- ESD protection: 16kV (HBM);
- Maximum operating speed: 1Mbps;
- Supply voltage: 3.0÷3.6V;
- Operating temperature: -40÷85°C;

Applications:
- Automotive industry,
- Industrial automation systems,
- Robot control, motor control
