Single Optocouplers

Optocouplers are components that enable the transmission of signals between galvanically isolated circuits. This function makes their use crucial for the safe operation of many devices. What are single optocouplers?

To ensure the smooth operation of a system, selecting the appropriate type of these components is essential. Single optocouplers are ideal for many basic applications. However, in some cases, it may be necessary to use more complex components, such as dual optocouplers or quad optocouplers.

What is the CTR of an optocoupler?

An extremely important parameter of all single optocouplers and other types of these components is the CTR. What is this property, and how do you properly select it for your circuit needs? CTR (Current Transfer Ratio) defines the amplification of the optocoupler, i.e., the ratio of output current to input current. Properly matching this parameter is essential for these components to perform their function correctly in the circuit. 

How to use an optocoupler?

If you want to use single optocouplers in your designed circuit, you must first determine the purpose of these components. This could be, for example, overvoltage protection, noise elimination, or circuit control. The next step will be to select an optocoupler with parameters that suit the specific need. Besides the aforementioned CTR, you should also pay attention to properties such as output voltage and isolation voltage. Afterward, you can order the appropriate components and integrate them into your system.
