Infrared Receivers
In our extensive range of electronic components, we also offer infrared receivers. Discover what they can be used for and what you should know about these components. Then, feel free to explore our complete assortment.
What Are Infrared Receivers Used For?
Infrared is a type of electromagnetic radiation. Importantly, it is invisible to the eye due to its long wavelength. This radiation can help in transmitting signals. Infrared has been used for years in remote control for electronic devices. Almost every remote control operates using electromagnetic radiation. Today, this technology is also utilized in automation and robotics. As one might guess, an IR receiver is used to receive signals, specifically infrared radiation.
How Is an IR Receiver Built and How Does It Work?
In the past, electromagnetic radiation was received by photodiodes, which then required a complex signal processing procedure. Today, components responsible for receiving signals are enclosed in a single device, which streamlines equipment operation and allows for smaller sizes. This device is, of course, the infrared receiver. The receiving diode is directly responsible for capturing the signal. The signal is then passed to an integrated circuit, where it is adapted to the processor's capabilities, and the infrared receiver sends the signal to it. This results in the desired reaction.
Selecting the Right Receivers – Parameters
Individual infrared receivers vary significantly in terms of parameters. An IR receiver must be perfectly matched to the transmitter in this respect. Even slight differences in wavelength can prevent the infrared system from functioning efficiently. Therefore, using alternative receivers is usually not possible. For example, the HFBR-2506AMZ model by Broadcom in our offer, which receives a wavelength of 650nm, cannot be interchangeably used with the equally high-quality IS471FE model by Sharp, which receives a wavelength of 940 nm.
Infrared Receiver and Other Necessary System Components
To ensure the system operates correctly, transmitters are also necessary besides infrared receivers. Of course, you can find these components in our offer as well. We also have numerous photodiodes and phototransistors, which serve as alternatives to receivers, which are integrated constructions. Infrared Receivers as Optoelectronic Equipment
Finally, it’s worth explaining which product category infrared receivers belong to. An IR receiver is an optoelectronic device. Optoelectronics is a field of science dealing with the processing of light after its acquisition and collection. Optoelectronic equipment is also used to transmit light and present data. In our offer, in the optoelectronics category, you will find IR receivers, as well as LEDs, touch panels, OLED displays, optotriacs, photoresistors, optical sensors, optical fibers, and much more.
